DRAFT AGENDA

Workshop Objectives


The overall objectives of the workshops are:

  • To raise awareness and improve understanding of social responsibility practices in general and the ISO 26000 process in particular

  • To review the involvement of stakeholders from Eastern European states in the ISO 26000 process

  • To establish broad strategies to:

  • support the establishment and effectiveness of national mirror committees in Eastern European states

  • enable systematic and continuous participation of stakeholders in developing ISO 26000

    The specific objectives include:

  • review the content of ISO 26000 WD4 (unedited advance copy)

  • provide a basis for critical commentary on ISO 26000 WD4, with particular emphasis on aspects that are:

  • priorities to enable sustainable development in Eastern European states

  • potentially controversial in the setting and context of Eastern European states

Workshop Structure


Day 1: General overview of social responsibility and ISO 26000: potential roles of SR stakeholders

    The main focus of the workshop during the first day will be on:

  • providing an opportunity for stakeholders to be acquainted with the international efforts on social responsibility (SR) and the envisaged role of Eastern European States, and facilitating a discussion among the stakeholder representatives on social responsibility concept

  • highlighting the growing importance of social responsibility practices, reviewing the implications of international norms and SR initiatives for organisations in the Eastern Europe, and assessing the nature of current SR initiatives in the region

  • enhancing the understanding of the history and background to the ISO 26000 process

  • reviewing the expected role of the six stakeholder groups in the SR process, and encouraging their involvement in the international work of SR

  • briefly reviewing the structure and content of ISO 26000, highlighting some of the key questions for consideration

    The intended participants during the first day of the workshop are representatives from the government agencies, industry, consumer organizations, trade unions, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions (all 6 groups of stakeholders) of East European countries.

    Day 2: ISO 26000 process status to date and future development: potential role of SR practitioners

  • The main focus of the workshop during the second day will be on:

  • reviewing the role that the mirror committees have played so far;

  • reviewing and commenting on key contentious issues within ISO 26000 WD4 (by stakeholder group)

  • identifying opportunities for improving the input and involvement of regional stakeholders in the ISO 26000 development process

The intended participants during the second day of the workshop are from the government agencies, industry, consumer organizations, trade unions, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions (all 6 groups of stakeholders) of East European countries.
